Are you still experiencing any of the following:
COVID-19 is a pandemic viral illness that has caused millions of deaths worldwide. Some people develop pneumonia and require hospitalization, but most people who get infected have mild symptoms and begin to recover quickly.
Early in the pandemic, it became clear that some COVID patients developed serious symptoms after recovering from their initial illness. These "long-haulers" report persistent breathing and heart problems, pain, fatigue, dizziness, headache, insomnia, digestive problems, "brain-fog," depression and anxiety.
You might expect that most people have experienced "some depression" since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, but there is an important difference between depression and misery. Depression doesn't go away when everything else starts getting better.
We do not yet understand exactly how COVID-19 causes chronic disease, or why some people develop symptoms and others do not. Research is intense and ongoing, but until the process is understood and has a definitive treatment, we are focused on doing the greatest good with the least risk of harm.
The Mount Sinai Post-COVID Recovery Program recommends a breathing program by STASIS developed specifically for patients recovering from COVID-19. Membership is free and includes workbooks and video training lessons. Individual consultations with breathwork specialists are also available for a nominal fee. You can read more about the value of breathwork in this article from The Atlantic.
